Challenge

Warakirri Cropping is part of Warakirri Asset Management, an Australian company partnering with specialist fund managers to deliver investment solutions across Australian agriculture, ethical investments, and actively managed equities.

Agriculture is critically important to Australia’s economy, society, and identity; it also faces environmental challenges from climate change, and accounts for about 18% of Australia’s total greenhouse gas emissions. Sustainable agriculture is therefore a key goal in government and industry strategies to mitigate the impacts of higher temperatures and achieve net zero.

As an asset manager working with sustainable investment funds, Warakirri takes its responsibility for the environmental stewardship of its properties and minimising the carbon footprint of its operations seriously. It’s a key competitive advantage, and the right thing to do.

The focus of Warakirri’s sustainability team is both internal and external, motivating employees and partners to prioritise sustainability, while supporting the business’ annual corporate reporting and investor communications.

Warakirri invests in sophisticated sustainability measurement and reporting. To extract maximum value out of that investment and reach its targets, the business needed sustainability report design to present the data and tell a compelling story to all key stakeholders.

Response

Over three consecutive years, Ellis Jones ran a structured process from ideation through design and layout, and support for editing processes and leadership changes. This led to sustainability report design, as well as a suite of supporting tools, bringing the sustainability strategy and its outcomes to life.

Outputs comprised:

  • Sustainability report design
  • Quarterly reporting dashboards
  • Company operating strategies
  • Team planning tools including sustainability regimes and values statements
  • Sustainability infographics
  • Net zero roadmaps
  • Signage for different agricultural properties

Outcomes

Ellis Jones provided Warakirri Cropping with sustainability report design for years 2022, 2023 and 2024 – testament to our strong, collaborative relationship with the sustainability and leadership teams, and the resulting consistency, quality and impact of the work.

Supporting tools were used throughout the business and in investor presentations. The value of Warakirri’s diversified agriculture fund has grown 37.6% over the five years to 2025, driven, in part, by the ability to attract ethical investors
