Downer Group
CASE STUDY: Executive speech writing for Downer.

Client
Downer EDI Limited (Downer) is a leading provider of engineering and infrastructure management services operating in the resources, energy, infrastructure, and telecommunications sectors. ASX listed, the company employs over 21,000 people in Australia, New Zealand, the wider Asia Pacific region as well as the United Kingdom.
Challenge
Ellis Jones was commissioned to produce a speech for the launch of the company’s environmentally sensitive asphalt plant in the suburb of Hume in the Australian Capital Territory. The facility not only reduces emissions in the production of asphalt, it also produces low emission warm asphalt and recycled asphalt product.
The Hume plant represents a major investment for Downer, a fact reflected in the attendees of the official launch, among them Members of the Parliament, senior industry executives and Downer management.
Response
Ellis Jones’ speech writer researched the plant’s environmental benefits and, more broadly, statistics demonstrating how Downer is meeting the expectations of community and political stakeholders to drive down emissions.
Outcome
Loud applause and a reputation for oratory.
